Introduction

The School of Accounting (SOA, the entity for AACSB accreditation), originally founded in 1938, is one of the pioneer accounting schools in China. Professor Xie Lin, China’s first CPA and prominent accounting expert, was the founder and director of the School of Accounting. Today, the accounting discipline at SOA is honored as a National Key Discipline[1] (along with seven other Chinese universities with accounting as the national key discipline, including Renmin University of China, Xiamen University, Sun Yat-Sen University and four other education institutions of finance and economics). SOA is also among the first schools to establish an undergraduate accounting program (1952) and was a front-runner in China in obtaining authorization for a master program in management (1981) and a doctoral program in accounting (1996). As one of the earliest institutions to establish Certified Public Accountant (CPA) as a major (1994), SOA created the Master of Professional Accounting program (MPAcc) in 2004, Master of Valuation program (MV) in 2010, and Master of Auditing program (MAud) in 2013. In 2014, SOA launched southwestern China's first MPAcc for Executives program. Also, the undergraduate accounting major co-established by SOA and Baruch College of the City University of New York (CUNY) was accredited as a Sino-Foreign Educational Cooperation major by the Ministry of Education and saw its first enrollment in September 2015. Almost 80 years of development allows SOA to integrate theory into practice, to establish its own brand in management, and to celebrate the fact that it nurtures a large number of talents with local, national, and international engagement in education and research.
